Danielle Pineda Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Chris Pratt‘s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard‘s Claire Dearing are back for ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ but they won’t be alone, as several new characters will be joining them on their latest dino-exploit, including Justice Smith‘s Franklin Webb and Danielle Pineda’s Zia Rodriguez.  Of course, the human characters aren’t the real attraction and with all the rampaging monster action, sometimes the human subplots have to be sacrificed.  Unfortunately, that was the case with Pineda’s character Zia.  Pineda reveals that a line that helped flesh Zia out was cut because the first cut of the film was way too long.

As she described the scenes, Pineda said:

“I look at Chris and I’m like: ‘Yeah, square jaw, good bone structure, tall, muscles.  I don’t date men, but if I did, it would be you. It would gross me out, but I’d do it.’ I love that I’m looking at Chris Pratt, the hottest guy in the world, and I’m like, ‘It would gross me out, but I guess I would do it!’ It was also cool, because it was a little insight into my character. But they cut it.”

She went on to say:

“Originally the cut was two hours and 40 minutes, and they were like, ‘This is too long.’  [This line wasn’t] relevant to the story, but it was a little glimmer into who she is.”

Viewers of the first ‘Jurassic World’ mocked the fact that Claire is shown running, jumping and climbing through the jungle in a pair of high heel pumps, while others were turned off by the brutal death of Claire’s assistant Zara Young (Katie McGrath), who, unlike a lot of other ‘Jurassic’ casualties, didn’t really “have it coming.”  Some may see this edit as another example of a female character not being given fair treatment in a male-dominated movie.

Then again, if you’re expecting #woke in a ‘Jurassic’ movie, you don’t have anyone to blame but yourself when you don’t find it.

Pineda, Howard, Pratt, and Smith will be seen this weekend, when J.A. Bayona’s ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ stampedes into theaters.

Jason Motes

Jason’s earliest memory is of watching ‘Batman,’ followed shortly by a memory of playing Batman & Robin with a friend, which entailed running outside in just their underwear and towels as capes. When adults told them they couldn’t run around outside in their underwear, both boys promptly whipped theirs off and ran around in just capes. Jason’s father gamely agreed to read him comic books as bedtime stories instead of ‘Snow White.’ (Super Friends being his favorite.) Jason saw all of the original Star Wars movies (and Indiana Jones and Superman and Star Trek…) in the theaters. Yes, he is old. And grew up in the most GEEKTASTIC decade ever, the 80s, devouring a steady diet of GI Joe, Transformers, Masters of the Universe, Princess of Power and (best of all) Jem! (It totally counts as sci fi! They had a sentient computer that projected holograms!) Jason has studied literature, journalism, film history and has a degree in creative writing (and a minor in psychology) from the University of South Alabama. He has worked as a technical writer and proofreader. These days, most of his creative energy goes into his blog and writing for this site! He lives with the cutest puppies ever.
