The Darkside Cinema in Corvallis has launched a twice-monthly “Sci-Fi Extravaganza” meant in part to pay suitable tribute to some of the worst science-fiction films ever made — including giving audience members the chance to mercilessly heckle these classics.

The series continues this Tuesday, May 15, with “The Brain That Wouldn’t Die,” the 1962 film in which a doctor experimenting with transplant techniques keeps his girlfriend’s head alive when she is decapitated in a car crash, then goes hunting for a new body. High jinks ensue.

The series opened on May 1 with a screening of the Ed Wood masterpiece “Plan 9 From Outer Space.” Lainie Turner of the Darkside said the plan is to screen the movies on the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

Doors open at the Darkside, 215 SW Fourth St., at 6 p.m., with the showing of vintage drive-in ads and other treats. The movie begins at 7 p.m.

Admission is $5, which includes credit toward a food menu item (excluding candy and alcoholic beverages).
