It was already confirmed that the iconic Star Trek character Spock would be coming to Star Trek: Discovery. We’re now learning that this younger version of Spock is going to be very different from the Spock we came to know in the original Star Trek series.

I’ve been curious about seeing how Spock will be handled in Discovery and now we have a little more insight into what we can expect. During a recent interview with TV Guide, showrunner Alex Kurtzman explained:

“This is not entirely the Spock who has been formed enough to be the Spock that we know from TOS. There’s a lot of story about who Spock was before he becomes the Spock that is the yin-yang to Kirk. What I’m so excited about is that we have an opportunity to present a version of Spock that’s both totally consistent with the Spock everyone knows but very, very different. And it’s all gonna tie to how we sink up with canon.”

It makes sense that Spock would be portrayed differently in Star Trek: Discovery and it’s going to be interesting to see who ends up playing him and how he ends up being portrayed and developed over the course of the series.

If you’ve been watching the series, then you know that Spock is Michael Burnham’s brother, and in case you’re wondering how Spock and Burnham get along with each other, executive producer Heather Kadin teases:

“I think that like any brother or sister, there’s love. There’s deep wells of stuff. That’s what’s so great about exploring that relationship, is there’s a lot of tricky stuff that we get to dig into.”

Are you excited about seeing how this younger iteration of Spock will be portrayed?
