Kaos Charlie Covell

Charlie Covell’s British-set dramedy ‘The End of the F*****g World’ was a hit for Netflix and although the ending was somewhat final, (although it did sort of end in a cliffhanger…) fans are clamoring for a second season.  But in the meantime, Netflix is turning to the writer of that series, Charlie Covell to craft another, even more, ambitious program for them– ‘Kaos’, “a darkly comedic and contemporary reimagining of Greek mythology, exploring themes of gender politics, power, and life in the underworld.”

‘Kaos’ will be produced by All3Media and Brightstar.  All3Media’s Nina Lederman and Brightstar’s Tanya Seghatchian and John Woodward will serve as executive producers.  No other announcements were made regarding casting or creative contributors, although Covell, who wrote all eight episodes of ‘The End of the F*****g World’ will most likely handle scripting chores.

‘The End of the F*****g World’ was nominated for the 2018 British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Series.  The nihilist series followed two troubled teens, James (Alex Lawther), a self-professed psychopath, and Alyssa (Jessica Barden), who gives him a good run for his money on that claim, as they go in search of Alyssa’s father.  During their travels, they endure a series of mishaps that draw them closer together and make James question his murderous impulses.  The show is based on Charles Forsman’s comic book of the same name.  The series aired simultaneously on Channel 4 in the UK and Netflix everywhere else.  Covell penned the scripts while Jonathan Entwistle and Lucy Tcherniak directed the episodes.

Covell has also written for the series ‘Banana’ (on which she also appeared as Amy) and the dark comedy film ‘Burn Burn Burn’ directed by newcomer Chanya Button.  Covell may also be known for her acting work, having most recently appeared as Detective Constable Alex Dier on the crime drama ‘Marcella’.

Netflix just announced that it had ordered the science fiction series ‘Away’ from creator Jason Katims.  The company also revealed that “Science Fiction and Fantasy” was its most popular genre, so it makes sense that they are snapping up so many genre projects.

Were you a fan of ‘The End of the F*****g World’?  Are you intrigued that its writer is delivering a new series to Netflix?

Jason Motes

Jason’s earliest memory is of watching ‘Batman,’ followed shortly by a memory of playing Batman & Robin with a friend, which entailed running outside in just their underwear and towels as capes. When adults told them they couldn’t run around outside in their underwear, both boys promptly whipped theirs off and ran around in just capes. Jason’s father gamely agreed to read him comic books as bedtime stories instead of ‘Snow White.’ (Super Friends being his favorite.) Jason saw all of the original Star Wars movies (and Indiana Jones and Superman and Star Trek…) in the theaters. Yes, he is old. And grew up in the most GEEKTASTIC decade ever, the 80s, devouring a steady diet of GI Joe, Transformers, Masters of the Universe, Princess of Power and (best of all) Jem! (It totally counts as sci fi! They had a sentient computer that projected holograms!) Jason has studied literature, journalism, film history and has a degree in creative writing (and a minor in psychology) from the University of South Alabama. He has worked as a technical writer and proofreader. These days, most of his creative energy goes into his blog and writing for this site! He lives with the cutest puppies ever.
