JJ Abrams is finally cashing in on the trend of Hollywood superhero movies.
The producer is partnering once again with his Overlord director Julius Avery on a secretive project called The Heavy, which is described by The Hollywood Reporter as a subversive interpretation of the superhero genre.
The current target is for The Heavy to be filmed later this year. Subverting a well-established genre is familiar ground for JJ Abrams, since he’s just blended the war and science fiction genres for Overlord.

The upcoming movie follows a platoon of American soldiers making landfall in Europe during World War II, only to find that the Nazis are using supernatural warfare to try to win the war.
Cloverfield 4 is also in the works, as is a mysterious HBO series called Demimonde that has only been described as “an epic and intimate” science fiction drama.
If that’s not enough to keep one person busy, he is producing Get Out director Jordan Peele’s period horror series Lovecraft Country as well as Hulu’s Stephen King show Castle Rock.
Abrams’ and director Julius Avery’s Overlord will open on October 25 in the UK and then premiere one day later (October 26) in the US.
