ONWARD AND UPWARD

Cripps & Simmons, LLC, of Columbia is pleased to announce that Jason L. Jacoby recently joined their firm as an associate attorney. His primary focus will be in the areas of estate planning, elder law and probate. Jacoby was introduced to the legal field as a young man when working for Dickerson Law Firm, P.A., a bankruptcy firm in Arkansas. He relocated to Missouri in 2012 and began working as a deputy clerk at the Boone County Courthouse. While there, Jacoby’s interest in legal matters grew into a desire to practice in the legal profession, and he received his J.D. from the University of Missouri School of Law in 2016, along with the school’s tax certification in estate planning. During his free time, Jacoby enjoys playing golf, reading all things science fiction, and above all, spending time with his wife Laura and their pets.

Claude Westfall of Centralia was given the Luther T. Spayde Award of Excellence during the Missouri Choral Directors Association (MCDA) 40th Annual Conference in Jefferson City Friday, July 20. This award is bestowed annually to one outstanding MCDA member. Westfall joined Central Methodist University (CMU) in 2008 and currently is director of choral activities and associate professor of music. He has nearly 42 years of experience in teaching music. Westfall has enhanced CMU’s choir, the Chorale, broadening its repertoire and challenging the passion of the students. Under his leadership, the Chorale performed at the Missouri Music Educators Association Conference and was one of six choirs in Missouri performing for the 40th anniversary celebration at the Robert Ray Gospel Mass. They have also sung at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., the Nashville Symphony and many United Methodist churches across the nation. Westfall’s previous awards include the John Schnell Faculty Dedication Award in 1997, USA Today’s All Teacher Academic Award for contributions to the advancement of music education in 1998 and Outstanding Alumnus Award from Missouri State University in 2005. He was also recognized for his excellence in teaching at the University of Missouri in 2006 and 2007.

Missouri Employers Mutual Insurance, headquartered in Columbia, was named the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents’ “Top Partner” during a ceremony July 19. The ceremony was part of MAIA’s annual Missouri Agents Connection Summit.

The Top Partner award is awarded to an insurance company doing business in Missouri that has demonstrated during the past year the greatest commitment to, and support of, the American Agency System and its independent insurance agent partners.
